Undergraduate Programs

Undergraduate students will receive a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology with the following emphasis areas:

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, NUTRITION, AND HUMAN PERFORMANCE

exercising on the columnsThis emphasis prepares graduates for employment in fitness assessment, lifestyle intervention education, health and wellness, exercise supervision and program administration or to continue in graduate studies in a variety of areas, including exercise science. Many students move into the health professions fields (physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician’s assistant) or seek out additional certifications. This is a rapidly expanding area with opportunities in corporate and commercial industries, government and non-profit sectors.

HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY & TRANSLATIONAL SCIENCES

student in labThis science-based program is highly multidisciplinary, integrating human physiology, biochemistry, organic chemistry, biology and the social/psychological sciences to study the modifiable influences of nutrition and physical activity on human health and disease. Students will be well prepared for health-related careers such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physician’s assistant, as well as for graduate study in biomedical/translational sciences.


Combined BS + MS: Accelerated Master’s Coordinated Program in Dietetics

NUTRITION AND FOODS/DIETETICS

working in MUNCH kitchenThe Dietetics Coordinated Program (CP) prepares students to become Registered Dietitian/Nutritionists (RDN). RDNs specialize in applied nutrition. Where there is food, there are dietitians. The CP’s emphasis area is clinical nutrition, which is the prevention and treatment of disease with food. In this accelerated program, students complete:

  • A Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology with an emphasis in Nutrition and Foods
  • A Master of Science in Dietetics
  • All coursework and supervised practice (internship hours) necessary to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians (RD Exam)

Our graduate program at the University of Missouri is nationally and internationally known in several research areas in the field of nutrition and exercise physiology.

Through cutting-edge research and an outstanding educational experience, we prepare students for careers in the health professions, health sciences and academia.

Our program has evolved over the years to focus on the interrelationships between nutrition and/or physical activity/inactivity and the role in health and disease.

Graduate students receive either a Master of Science or PhD in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology and can choose from the following emphasis areas:

We are accepting applications for both the MS and PhD programs for AY 23-24. We may have assistantships available.
