Mizzou was well represented at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) hosted in Anaheim, California. Twenty-three of the Initiative for Maximizing Student Diversity (IMSD) scholars participated, with 19 presenting their research. Once again, Mizzou had a 100% abstract acceptance rate. For the ninth year in a row, at least one IMSD Scholar from MU has been selected as an Outstanding Research Presentation Award Recipient in her/his category. The conference included over 2,500 undergraduate research presentations and only 395 presentations were selected for this award. While all of the students’ presentations were excellent, it was an honor to have four of them selected by the judges for recognition at the national conference. The following MU IMSD students received an Outstanding Poster Presentation Award:
- Clayton Ivie (So. Secondary Education) – MU Faculty Mentor: Jaqueline Limberg / Nutrition & Exercise Physiology
Poster Title: Sex Differences in the Effect of Intermittent Hypoxia on Sympathetic Baroreflex Control of Blood Pressure
ABRCMS Scientific Discipline Category: Physiology & Pharmacology - Alisha Perry (Jr. Biological Sciences) – MU Faculty Mentor: Elizabeth Parks / Nutrition & Exercise Physiology
Poster Title: Hepatic Short Chain Fatty Acid Oxidation (SCFA) in Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
ABRCMS Scientific Discipline Category: Physiology & Pharmacology - Benjamin Jones (Jr. Biological Sciences) – MU Faculty Mentor: Erika Boerman / Medical Pharmacology & Physiology
Poster Title: Decreased Metalloprotease Expression Contributes to Impaired Sensory Vasodilation in Mesenteric Arteries with Inflammatory Bowel Disease
ABRCMS Scientific Discipline Category: Physiology & Pharmacology - Dominique Joseph (Jr. Biological Sciences) – MU Faculty Mentor: Charlotte Phillips / Biochemistry
